How the area pages work

Every suburb we have written up on the Mornington Peninsula is listed below, with a page for each kind of job there.

A page for each job in each suburb

The suburb page covers houses. Under it sit pages for exterior, interior, shop and factory work, but only where that work exists: a shops page where the suburb has a shopping strip, a factories page only where an industrial area is on record. Each one says what is true about that place and what it means for the paint job, with its sources listed.

Two coasts, one problem: salt

Many of these suburbs sit on Port Phillip Bay or Western Port, or within a few streets of one. Salt air gets under paint on bare metal, so on coastal jobs galvanised gutters and downpipes are primed before they're painted, not just given a top coat.

Houses of different ages

The housing changes from one suburb to the next: post-war estates, older beach houses, and new estates still being built. Age changes the prep. Older doors and trims often carry oil-based enamel, which changes how they're painted, and a home built before 1970 can have lead paint in the older layers, which we don't remove. Each suburb below says when most of its houses were built.

Call anyway. The list is where we've written a page so far, not the edge of where we work. Aussie Painting takes jobs beyond it, and the list grows as the pages are researched.
