Painting a fence or deck on the Mornington Peninsula
How the timber is got ready and coated, and what to sort out first when the fence is shared.
Brushed and rolled, never sprayed
Our crews coat fences and decks by brush and roller, never with a spray gun. Spray drifts on the wind onto cars, windows and the neighbour's side of the fence. Brushing also works the coating into the grain and into the gaps between palings and boards.
Paint, stain or oil?
A fence is usually painted or stained. A deck you walk on is often better with a decking oil or stain than a paint film, which can wear through and peel on the treads. It depends on the timber, what's on it now and how it's used, so ask which suits yours before you book.
Getting the timber ready
Old flaking coatings are scraped back and grey, weathered timber is cleaned so the new coat can soak in. Lifted nails and loose boards are worth fixing before a deck is coated. Timber has to be dry right through, so outside work doesn't start when rain or heavy dew is due.
Shared fences
If a fence is shared, it's worth a word with the neighbour before it's coated, especially if you're changing the colour. Tell us which side or sides you want done when you ask for a quote.

Don't pay for your fences and decks twice.
The cheapest quote skips the prep, uses cheap paint and does one coat. It looks fine for a few months, then it peels, and you're paying someone to strip it and start again.

Quotes and price
How do I get a quote?
Call us or send the form with a line about the job and where you are. We'll arrange a time to look at it and give you a written quote. The quote is free.
How much does it cost to paint a house?
It depends on the size of the area, how much preparation the surfaces need, their condition, access and height, and how many coats it takes. We don't guess over the phone: we look at the job and put the price in writing, with each of those explained.
Do you take a deposit?
Yes, but only enough to cover the materials for your job. Everything else about payment is set out in your written quote before we start.
How long will the job take?
It depends on the size of the job, how much prep it needs and, outside, the weather. Before we start you get a planned schedule, and if anything moves the dates we tell you.
