Trim repaints on the brick homes from the mid-1980s
Not every house in Skye is new. Frankston Council's character brochure for the Skye 1 precinct lists styles from the mid-1980s to the present, with scattered 1950s houses, mostly single storey, in brick and render with tiled roofs. A residential area was created here during the 1980s. On the older brick homes the paint is on timber trims, gutters and doors. Old oil-based paint on trims changes the prep, so it gets checked at the quote.
Garage doors, porches and side fences in open view
Both of Council's Skye brochures describe a general absence of front fences, wide nature strips and side fences that run forward of the house. The guidelines ask for it to stay that way, with no front fences except on heavily trafficked roads. So the garage door, front door and porch are what the street sees, and the side fences are in plain view as well. Timber fences are brushed and rolled.
Fading on walls with little shade
The brochures describe Skye's gardens as mostly low-level planting, some of it newly established, with a rural outlook to the east. Low planting gives the walls very little shade. North and west faces fade first, and deep colours on render show it soonest. On hot days the crew keeps to the shade. Surfaces are washed and left to dry before paint goes on.

Census counts put Skye at 3,175 people in 2001 and 6,898 in 2006, so whole streets were built within a few years of each other and reach repaint age together. In 2021, 89% of occupied homes were separate houses, 48.5% had four or more bedrooms and the average household had 2.9 people. Busy family homes wear hardest inside: hallways, doors and wet areas.
